There were several warm nights during June, and on 7 nights the temperature stayed above 20 Celsius (68F). The first of these warm nights was the 7th/8th, then 5 consecutive warm nights commenced on the 11th/12th. On each of these 6 nights minima were between 20 and 21 Celsius (68-70F). However, the warmest night of the month was the 28th/29th when a low of 23.1 Celsius (73F) was recorded. The coolest nights occurred early in the month, and the first 3 nights of June were the only ones with minima below 17 Celsius (63F). The coolest night was the 1st/2nd with a low of 15.6 Celsius (60F).
The sea temperature varied considerably during June. At the beginning of the month 17 Celsius was recorded but this quickly rose to 19 or 20 Celsius (66-68F), and temporarily reached 21 or 22 Celsius (70-72F) around mid month before steadying at 19 Celsius (66F). However, at the end of June the sea temperature fell to 17 Celsius (63F).
Rain in Malaga
There were 12.0 millimetres (0.5 ins) of rain measured during the month, and this made it the wettest June in west Malaga since 1998. Measurable rain occurred on 3 days, and that’s 2 days more than normally expected in June. The first rain occurred in the early hours of the 1st, and this very dusty rain, heavy in bursts, combined with further rain late in the morning and early in the afternoon, amounted to 10.4 millimetres (0.4 ins). Light showers occurred on the evening of the 10th, but only a trace of rain was recorded. However, after midnight there was further showery rain and 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins) were logged. The only other rain occurred early on the afternoon of the 24th when a very short, but torrential, downpour produced 1.3 millimetres (0.05 ins) of rain.
Thunder
There were thunderstorms on the Costa del Sol at midnight as June began, but the first thunderstorms in Malaga occurred late in the morning on the 1st and then lasted until early afternoon. The heaviest storms appeared to be north and west of Malaga. The only other thunderstorm in June was early in the afternoon on the 24th.
Wind
Although the wind was predominantly from the northwest during June, there were many afternoons when fresh southwesterly sea breezes developed, but later in the month the sea breezes were generally lighter and mainly from the southeast. There was no great strength to the winds, and the only days when gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) were on both the 1st and 2nd when 22 knots (25 mph) were recorded.
Fog
No fog was observed in west Malaga during June.
