Temperatures in Malaga
The average maximum temperature during April 2016 in Malaga was 21.1 Celsius (70F), and that was 0.1 Celsius (0.2F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 13.6 Celsius (57F), and that was 0.2 Celsius (<1F) below the normal April value.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 25.7 Celsius (79F) on the 16th, and the temperature also rose to 25 Celsius (77F) on the 27th. There were only 4 other days when the temperature rose above 23 Celsius (73F), with all the warmer days occurring after the 14th. There were no especially cool days, but on 8 occasions maxima stayed below 20 Celsius (68F). Only 2 of these cooler days occurred after mid month but the second coolest day of the month was the 20th with a high of 17.5 Celsius (63F). The lowest maximum of 16.7 Celsius (62F) occurred on the 2nd.
There were several fairly warm nights in April, and on 9 nights the temperature stayed above 15 Celsius (59F). However, the 12th, with a low of 15.1 Celsius (59F), was the only one of the warmer nights occurring before mid month. The warmest nights occurred during the last week of April, and on 3 occasions minima were above 17 Celsius (63F). The highest reading was 17.6 Celsius (64F) recorded on the 28th. The coolest nights occurred early in the month with 9 nights having lows under 13 Celsius (55F). After mid month there was only 1 of these cooler nights. On 2 nights the temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F). Early on the 2nd the temperature fell to 9.3 Celsius (49F), but on the morning of the 9th a minimum of 8.9 Celsius (48F) was measured.
The sea temperature was around 15 Celsius (59F) at first, rising to 16 Celsius (61F) around mid month, then to 17 Celsius (63F) later in April. At the end of the month a value of 18 Celsius (64F) was observed.
Rain in Malaga
There were 23.4 millimetres (0.9 ins.) of rain measured during April and that was only around a half of the monthly average. Significant rain (0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) or more) fell on only 3 days and that was 4 days below average for the month. It was the least number of ‘rain days’ in April since records began in 2006. The first rain fell on the afternoon and evening of the 4th and amounted to 4.6 millimetres (0.2 ins.). After a fortnight of dry weather, rain fell early on the 19th, with further rain in the evening. The rain only amounted to 1.8 millimetres (0.1 ins.) but it continued overnight, followed by showers on the morning of the 20th. The total for the day was 17 millimetres (0.7 ins.), and that was the last rain of the month.
Thunder
There were no reports of thunder in this part of west Malaga.
Wind
It was a breezy first half of the month with overnight northwesterly land breezes followed, on occasions, in the afternoons, by brisk southwesterlies running along the beach. Although on some days there were gentler sea breezes blowing from the southeast. Later in the month, winds were generally lighter, with overnight land breezes more typically being replaced by gentle east or southeasterly sea breezes. On 5 days gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) but the 29th, with a gust of 21 knots (24 mph) was the only one of the breezier days to occur after the 8th. The highest gust occurred on the 8th, with 28 knots (32 mph) measured.
Fog
There was no fog observed in west Malaga during April, although the Airport noticed fog patches briefly around dawn on the 25th.
