Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during April 2019 in Malaga was 20.7 Celsius (69F), and that was 0.3 Celsius (<1F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 12.8 Celsius (55F), and that was 0.8 Celsius (1F) below normal for April.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 25.1 Celsius (77F) on the 22nd, and there were 4 other days when the temperature exceeded 23 Celsius (73F). There were 3 of these warmer days between the 12th and 15th, with the other warmer day occurring on the 29th. There were several rather cool days, these mainly occurring during the first and third weeks of April. On 12 occasions the temperature failed to rise above 20 Celsius (68F), and on 3 of these cooler days the maximum temperature was below 18 Celsius (64F). The 3 coolest days occurred before the 7th, with the 1st coolest with a high of 17.1 Celsius (63F).
There were no particularly mild nights during April but on 3 occasions minimum temperatures were above 15 Celsius (59F). On the 14th a minimum of 15.9 Celsius (61F) occurred, but the mildest night of the month was 16th with a low of 16.1 Celsius (61F). There were no especially cool nights. However, there were only 4 nights in the whole month when night-time temperatures exceeded the long-term average. On 8 occasions the temperature fell below 12 Celsius (54F), but on only 3 of these cooler nights were minimum temperatures below 11 Celsius (52F). The coolest nights of the month were the 6th and 28th, these both having a minimum temperature of 10.7 Celsius (51F).
The sea temperature was around 16 Celsius (61F) throughout the month, with a hint of 17 Celsius (63F) at the end of April .
Rain
There were 37.7 millimetres (1.5 ins.) of rain during April, and although that was 8% below average, it more than doubled the total for the year so far, and was also the wettest April for 5 years. Rain fell on 8 days, and that was 1 above the monthly average. Showery outbreaks of rain gave 4.8 millimetres (0.2 ins.) on the afternoon of the 1st, and further rain on the 5th produced 9.7 millimetres (0.4 ins.). This was the wettest day of the month, and more rain fell on the 6th. It then stayed dry until the 18th when showers gave 7.1 millimetres (0.3 ins.) of rain. Showers again on the 21st added more than 7 millimetres (0.3 ins.) to the total, with the changeable weather continuing until the 25th, with over 5 millimetres (0.2 ins.) of rain measured on the 23rd. The last 5 days of the month were dry and mainly sunny.
Thunder
There were 2 rumbles of thunder in association with the showers on the morning of the 18th.
Wind
Although the northwesterly land breezes dominated, the usual emergence of Spring afternoon sea breezes occurred as the month progressed. There were some very large waves at times during April, further contributing to coastal erosion, but wind strengths in the Malaga area stayed fairly low, with no gusts above 20 knots (23 mph) recorded.
Fog
No fog was observed in west Malaga during April.
