Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during April 2021 in Malaga was 20.2 Celsius (68F), and that was 0.7Celsius (1F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 14.6 Celsius (59F), and that was 0.9 Celsius (>1F) above normal for April.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 25.8 Celsius (78F) on the 20th, but this was still lower than the highest temperature of the year, so far, recorded in January. The temperature reached 25.6 Celsius (78F) on the 3rd, but there were only 2 other days with maxima above 22 Celsius (72F). The temperature on the 2nd reached 24.3 Celsius (76F) and 22.2 Celsius (72F) was recorded on the 26th. On most days (22) the maximum temperature was between 18 and 22 Celsius (64-72F), but there were a few cooler days. On 3 days, the 8th, 14th, and 15th, the temperature stayed below 17 Celsius (63F). The coolest of these days was the 15th with a high of 16.3 Celsius (61F).
There were no particularly warm nights during April, but the temperature only fell to 17.0 Celsius (63F) on the 22nd, and there were 5 other nights with minima above 16 Celsius (61F), and a further 7 nights when the temperature stayed above 15 Celsius (59F). There were no especially cool nights, although it was chilly at times around the middle of the month. On 5 occasions the temperature fell below 13 Celsius (55F), with 4 of these cooler nights occurring between the 14th and 18th. The exception was on the 29th. The only one of these nights to have a minimum below 12 Celsius (54F) was the 17th when 11.9 Celsius (54F) was recorded.
The sea temperature was 17 or 18 Celsius (63-64F) throughout the month.
Rain
There were 56.9 millimetres (2.2 ins.) of rain during April. This was 42% above average and the wettest April for 10 years. Measurable rain fell on 9 days, and that was 2 days above normal. The first 9 days of the month were dry, but 1 millimetre (0.04 ins.) of rain fell on the morning of the 10th. Occasional rain on the afternoon of the 14th was the beginning of a 4-day unsettled spell. On both the 15th and 16th over 8 millimetres (0.3 ins.) of rain fell, with nearly 5 millimetres (0.2 ins.) falling on the 17th. It then stayed dry until the 24th, when evening showers gave over 5 millimetres (0.2 ins.) of rain. The remnants of the showers gave 0.5 millimetres (0.02 ins.) in the early hours of the 25th, but on the 27th rain occurred in the morning with heavy showers late in the afternoon. The total for the day was 21.3 millimetres (0.8 ins.), the wettest day of the month. The 28th was another showery day, and a mid-afternoon shower gave 5.6 millimetres (0.2 ins.) of rain, the last measurable rain of the month.
Thunder
There were 2 thunderstorms during April. One occurred on the evening of the 16th, and thunder was heard during the shower late in the afternoon on the 27th.
Wind
It was another quite windy month with fresh southeasterly sea breezes occurring on many afternoons, and moderate or fresh northwesterly winds occurring on a similar number of nights. On 6 days gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) with some squally gusts of 23 knots (26 mph) measured ahead of the showers on the afternoon of the 27th. The highest gust was 26 knots (30 mph) on the 12th.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of west Malaga during the month.
