There were a few afternoons, mainly after mid-month, when fresh, almost strong, south to southwest winds blew and, at times, lifted sand on the beach. Measured gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) on 5 days, with 23 knots (26 mph).occurring on the 8th, 19th and 23rd. The anemometer mast is somewhat sheltered from the southwest, and it is likely that higher gusts may have occurred on afternoons when winds blew from that direction.
