Temperatures in Malaga
The average maximum temperature during August 2016 in Malaga was 30.2 Celsius (86F), and that was 0.5 Celsius (1F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 23.4 Celsius (74F), and that was 0.9 Celsius (1.5F) above the normal August value.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 39.2 Celsius (103F) on the 4th, but the 20th was also very hot with a high of 39.1 Celsius (102F). The first day of the month had a high of 34.1 Celsius (93F), and there were 3 further days when maxima were between 36 and 37 Celsius (97-99F). However, there were only 4 other days when temperatures exceeded 30 Celsius (86F). On most days (18) highest temperatures were between 27 and 29 Celsius (81-84F) with only day when the maximum failed to reach 27 Celsius (81F). That day was the 15th when 26.6 Celsius (80F) was recorded.
There were many uncomfortably warm and humid nights during August, not helped by the abundance of mosquitoes. Thunder
There were no reports of thunder in this part of west Malaga, but vivid sheet lightning was observed over the sea on the evening of the 26th.
Wind
The wind pattern was fairly typical for a Summer month, with light northwesterly land breezes being replaced by gentle afternoon southeasterly sea breezes. However, the northwesterly breeze persisted throughout on the hottest days. There were 3 days when gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph). The northwesterly breeze gusted 26 knots (30 mph) on the 1st and 30 knot (34 mph) on the 5th. The heat of the 20th persisted throughout the evening with a temperature of 32.6 Celsius (91F) at midnight. However, in the early hours of the 21st a southeasterly breeze suddenly developed and this was accompanied by a gust of 22 knots (25 mph).
Fog
There was no fog observed in west Malaga during August.
