Weather in Malaga – August 2018

Warm and Very Dry

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during August 2018 in Malaga was 30.3 Celsius (86F), and that was 0.5 Celsius (1F) above normal for the time of year.  The average minimum temperature was 23.1 Celsius (73F), and that was also 0.5 Celsius (1F) above normal for August.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was  34.2 Celsius (94F) on the 14th. This was the lowest monthly maximum for August since records began in 2005. There were a further 2 days when 33 Celsius (91F) was exceeded (the 6th and 7th), and on the 8th a maximum of 32.2 Celsius (90F) was recorded. On all other days, bar 1, the temperature rose to between 28 Celsius (82F)  and 32 Celsius (90F). The exception was on the 29th when a high of 27.4 Celsius (81F) was measured. Interestingly, in the previous 13 years, there had always been a maximum temperature lower than this value.
The theme of no extremes of temperature was also apparent in minimum temperatures. On 5 nights the temperature remained above 24 Celsius (75F), with both the 11th and 12th having minima of 24.9 Celsius (77F). On most nights the temperature fell to between 22 and 24 Celsius (72-75F), but on 5 occasions the minimum was below 22 Celsius (72F). The coolest nights were generally towards the end of the month with 4 of the 5 lowest values occurring in the last 9 days of August. The coolest night was the 23rd with a minimum temperature of 21.6 Celsius (71F).
The sea temperature was between 24 and 25 Celsius (75-77F) throughout the month.

Rain

No rain was observed in west Malaga during August, although there were reports of  light showers locally on the afternoon and evening of the 27th.

Thunder

There was a distant thunderstorm to the north early in the evening of the 27th.

Wind

Northwesterly winds on many mornings were followed by light or gentle southeasterly sea breezes during the afternoons. In a month of generally lighter winds than normal, the highest gusts were of 17 knots (19 mph) recorded on both the 10th and 14th.

Fog

There was no fog observed in  west Malaga during August, although misty low cloud was observed on a few mornings.
