Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during August 2021 in Malaga was 29.5 Celsius (85F), and that was 0.4 Celsius (<1 F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 22.7 Celsius (73F), and that was 0.1 Celsius (0.2 F) above normal for August.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 36.5 Celsius (98F) on the 28th, but the temperature rose above 35 Celsius (95F) on both the 6th and 7th, with highs of 35.3 Celsius (96F) and 35.2 Celsius (95F) respectively. There were no other maxima above 32 Celsius (90F), but on 6 other days the temperature climbed above 30 Celsius (86F). On most days (18) the high was between 27 and 30 Celsius (81-86F), but 3 cooler days occurred. However, the only day when the temperature failed to reach 26 Celsius (79F) was on the 2nd, when 25.6 Celsius (78F) was recorded.
There were several warm nights during August, especially during the second half of the month. However, the warmest night of the month occurred on the 7th, when 26.6 Celsius (80F) was measured. The minimum was 25.1 Celsius (77F) on both the 22nd and 24th, and there were 6 other nights with minima above 24 Celsius (75F), with all of these warmer nights occurring after mid month. Only 5 nights had minima below 21 Celsius (70F), and apart from the 12th, all the cooler nights occurred between the 1st and 6th. The first 2 nights of August were the only ones to have minima below 20 Celsius (68F) with readings of 19.9 Celsius (68F) and 19.3 Celsius (67F) respectively.
The sea temperature, around 20 Celsius (68F) at the beginning of the month, rose slowly to 22 or 23 Celsius (72-73F) by the end of the second week. It then rose markedly to 25 or 26 Celsius (77-79F), before falling back to 22 or 23 Celsius (72-73F) on the last couple of days of August.
Rain
No measurable rain fell during August, although a few spots fell on the morning of the 24th. However, on the 16th, sea fog was wet enough to produce 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) of ‘rain’.
Thunder
There was no thunder heard in this part of Malaga.
Wind
It was a typical mid-summer month of gentle morning land breezes replaced until evening by light sea breezes. On many days, the land breeze was insignificant with no wind reported in the evenings, overnight and during many of the mornings. Occasionally, the incoming sea breeze produced isolated gusts, but the only breezy days were the 7th and 28th when northwesterly winds persisted through most of the day. Only 1 day, the 28th, had a gust above 20 knots (23 mph). On that day 22 knots (25 mph) were recorded.
Fog
Sea fog occurred on the afternoon of the 13th, with more widesp;read sea mist amnd fog occurring on the 16th.
