Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during December 2025 in Malaga was 17.1 Celsius (63F), and that was 0.3 Celsius (<1F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 10.2 Celsius (50F), and that was 0.2 Celsius (<0.5F) below average for December. This was the coolest December for 8 years, and the only month during 2025 to record a mean temperature below average.
There were no particularly warm days during December, but the temperature reached 21.8 Celsius (71F) on the 6th, and 21.6 Celsius (71F) occurred on the 5th. These were the only 2 days with maxima above 20 Celsius (68F). The vast majority of days (21) had maxima ranging from 16 to 20 Celsius (61-68F). This included 9 days with highs above 18 Celsius (64F). Only 2 of these warmer days occurred after mid-month. There were 4 days with maxima below 15 Celsius (59F). A high of 14.8 Celsius (59F) occurred on the 3rd, and 14.7 Celsius (58F) was recorded on the 23rd, but the coolest days of the month were the 21st and 22nd, with highs of 13.0 and 12.5 Celsius (55F) respectively. In fact, these were the 2 coolest days of the year, and the latter temperature was the lowest in December for 5 years.
No especially warm nights occurred during December. A low of 15.6 Celsius (60F) occurred on the 12th, with 14.7 Celsius and 14.4 Celsius (58F) recorded on the 6th and 13th, respectively. A further 10 nights had minima above 10 Celsius (50F), but only 1 of these milder nights occurred after mid-month. There were 15 nights with lows ranging from 8 to 10 Celsius (46-50F), but on 3 nights it was cooler. A low of 7.8 Celsius (46F) was recorded on the 31st, and 6.8 Celsius (44F) was recorded on the 22nd, but the coolest night of the month was the 27th with a minimum of 5.9 Celsius (43F).
The sea temperature was 15 or 16 Celsius (59-61F) throughout the month.
Rain
A total of 69.0 millimetres (2.7 ins.) of rain fell during December. This was 16% above the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 15 days, and that was 9 days above average for the time of year. This was a new high for December ‘rain days’, from records dating back to 2005. A light shower occurred during the afternoon of the 2nd, but there was insufficient rain to measure. However, rain overnight produced 1.8 millimetres (0.07 ins.) on the 3rd. After 6 dry days, the weather became changeable, with only 1 dry day (the 13th) recorded between the 10th and 16th. Heavier bursts of rain were generally short-lived, and daily totals were fairly small, but 5.4 millimetres (0.21 ins.) occurred on the 14th, with 9.6 millimetres (0.38 ins.) measured on the 15th, and a further 12.6 millimetres (0.5 ins.) fell on the 16th. The 17th and 18th were dry, but 7 millimetres (0.27 ins.) of rain fell during the evening of the 19th. The rain continued into the early hours of the 20th with 2.4 millimetres (0.09 ins.) measured. Outbreaks of rain totalled 5 millimetres (0.2 ins.) on the 21st, and even though 4 dry days occurred, the unsettled weather continued until the end of the month. Much of the rain was light, but heavy rain occurred overnight and during the morning of the 28th, and this was the wettest day of the month with 14.8 millimetres (0.58 ins.) of rain measured.
Thunder
Thunder was heard on 6 days during December. This was 3 days above the average. Thunder occurred during the early hours of the 15th, with further storms occurring during the evening. A rumble of thunder was heard mid-evening on the 19th, and again early during the evening on the 24th. Several thunderstorms occurred during the evening of the 27th, with the last of these moving away during the early hours of the 28th.
Hail
No hail was observed in this part of west Malaga, but several severe hailstorms occurred across Andalucia during December, particularly on the 27th.
Wind
Winds during December were predominantly from the northwest. Only 4 days had winds dominating from a different direction, but the east to southeast winds all produced significant gusts. December was generally quite a breezy month, with 11 days having gusts in excess of 20 knots (23 mph). However, only the east-southeasterlies had gusts above 30 knots (34 mph). An east-southeast wind developed late on the 11th and continued until early on the 16th. The peak gust was 37 knots (42 mph) on the 12th. A damaging wind commenced early on the 27th, and for a time before dawn, the sustained 10-minute wind was 40 knots (46 mph) with several gusts to 44 knots (50 mph). A few trees blew down, and social media showed pictures of rearranged cafe furniture.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of west Malaga.
