Weather in Malaga – February 2021

Very Dry and Mild

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during February 2021 in Malaga was 18.2 Celsius (68F), and that was 1 Celsius (<2F) above normal for the time of year.  The average minimum temperature was 11.5 Celsius (53F), and that was 1.6 Celsius (3F) above normal for February.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was  22.8 Celsius (73F) on the 2nd, but there were 5 other days with maxima above 21 Celsius (70F), including highs of 21.8 Celsius (71F) on both the 12th and 13th. All of these warmer days occurred before the 14th. On most days (15) the maximum temperature was between 16 and 18 Celsius (61-64F). In fact, only 2 days had lower maxima. The 15th had a high of 15.7 Celsius (60F), and the 21st had a top temperature of 15.6 Celsius (60F), making it the coolest day of the month.

There were several mild nights during February with the first night of the month the mildest with a minimum of 15.6 Celsius (60F). The 12th had a low of 15.1 Celsius (59F), and 4 other nights had minima above 14 Celsius (57F), including 3 out of the last 4 nights of February. A further 11 nights had minima above 10 Celsius (50F) with many of the milder nights occurring in the first and last weeks of the month. No particularly cold nights occurred during February, and although the temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F) on 11 occasions, only 4 nights had lows under 9 Celsius (48F). The 4 cool nights were the 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th with the latter 3 dates each having minima below 8 Celsius (46F). The coolest night was the 16th when the temperature fell to 7.7 Celsius (46F).

The sea temperature stayed around 14 or 15 Celsius (57-59F) throughout the month. 

Rain

There were only 9.2 millimetres (0.36 ins.) of rain during February. This was just 18% of the average. Measurable rain fell on 4 days, and that was 3 days below normal. The first rain of the month fell on the 6th in the early hours, but only totalled 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins.). Outbreaks of rain on the morning of the 8th gave 2.8 millimetres (0.12 ins.) but it then stayed dry until the 21st. The rain late morning and early afternoon on the 21st was short-lived but briefly quite heavy and amounted to 4.8 millimetres (<0.2 ins.). It then stayed dry until late evening on the 28th when 1.3 millimetres (0.05 ins.) of rain were recorded. 

Thunder

There was a slight thunderstorm early in the afternoon on the 21st.

Wind

It was quite a breezy month with northwesterly winds dominant during the first half of the month, with east to southeasterly winds more prominent thereafter. Gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) on 8 occasions, with the highest gust of 28 knots (32 mph) from the east-southeast occurring on the last day of the month. 

Fog

There was mist, and patchy fog, on the morning of the 17th.
