Weather in Malaga – February 2024

                   Very Mild and Dry

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during February 2024 in Malaga was 19.5 Celsius (67F), and that was 2.1 Celsius (4 F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 11.6 Celsius (53F), and that was 1.6 Celsius (3 F) above normal for February. Overall, it was the second mildest February (behind February 2020) since records began in 2005.

No record-breaking daily temperatures occurred during February in Malaga, but a maximum of 24.5 Celsius (76F) occurred on the 22nd, and 4 other days had maxima above 23 Celsius (73F), including a high of 23.8 Celsius (75F) on the 12th. A further 5 days had maxima above 20 Celsius (68F). On most other days (15), maximum temperatures ranged from 17 to 20 Celsius (63-68F), but there were 4 exceptions. On the 11th, a high of 16.7 Celsius (62F) occurred, but the coolest days were the first 3 days of the month. The 1st and 2nd both had highs above 16 Celsius (61F), but the 3rd had a maximum of only 15.8 Celsius (60F), and that was the coolest day of the month. 

There were several mild nights in February. A minimum temperature of 16.4 Celsius (62F) occurred on the 22nd, and that equalled the highest minimum recorded in February at this site since records began in 2005. A low of 15.7 Celsius (60F) occurred on the 13th, but there were only 2 other nights, the 16th and 26th, when the temperature stayed above 13 Celsius (55F). On most remaining nights the lowest temperature was between 10 and 13 Celsius (50-55F), but there were 5 exceptions. On the 4th, 19th and 28th minima of 9.8 Celsius (50F), 9.9 Celsius (50F) and 9.7 Celsius (50F) occurred, but the coolest nights were the 2nd and 5th with lows of 7.0 and 7.3 Celsius (45F) respectively. 

The sea temperature was 15 Celsius (59F) until the last few days of the month when it fell to 14 Celsius (57F).

Rain

A total of 20.6 millimetres (0.81 ins.)  of rain was measured during February. This was 45% of the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 7 days during February, which is 1 day above average for the month. The first 8 days of February were dry but on the 9th rain or drizzle fell for most of the day. The total for the day was 14.4 millimetres (0.57 ins.). A little rain fell during the early hours of the 10th, and patchy rain occurred on the 15th. A shower fell overnight on the 17th, but the total for these 3 ‘rain days’ was only 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.). Showers both early and late on the 23rd gave 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.) with rain just after midnight on the 24th adding another 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) to the monthly total. The last rain of the month occurred on the 26th, when morning rain, followed by an early afternoon shower, contributed 4.4 millimetres (0.17 ins.) to the final total. 

Thunder

The only thunderstorm during February occurred on the late afternoon of the 15th, but it was weak with only 2 fairly distant rumbles of thunder heard.

Wind

Apart from during the first week, February was quite a breezy month, with most of the wind blowing from the northwest. Sea breezes were almost non-existent, although east-southeasterly breezes occurred for much of the day on the 1st and 3rd, and a weak ‘levanter’ (normally strong winds from the east-southeast) occurred on the 9th. The strongest winds blew during the last 8 days of the month, and of the 11 days with gusts exceeding 20 knots (23 mph), only 3 occurred before the 22nd. No exceptional gusts were measured, but 30 knots (34 mph) occurred on the 28th, with 27 knots (31 mph) recorded on the 26th.

Fog

No fog was observed in this area during the month.
