Weather in Malaga – January 2019

Very Dry and fairly  Mild

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during January 2019 in Malaga was 17.6 Celsius (64F), and that was 0.8 Celsius (1.5F) above normal for the time of year.  The average minimum temperature was 9.1 Celsius (48F), and that was 0.2 Celsius (0.3F) below normal for January.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was  23.2 Celsius (74F) on the 25th. This was the mildest January day for 7 years. There were 3 other days when the temperature exceeded 20 Celsius (68F), with all these milder days occurring during the first fortnight of January, and included a high of 22.2 Celsius (72F) on the 2nd. On most days (20) the temperature rose to between 16 and 20 Celsius (61-68F), but there were a few cooler days, these mainly occurring early in the month. On 3 occasions the temperature failed to reach  15 Celsius (59F). The coolest day was the 12th with a maximum temperature of 14.5 Celsius (58F).
There were no particularly mild nights during January, but the minimum temperature was 14.8 Celsius (59F) on the 24th, with a low of 13.6 Celsius (57F) on the 30th. There were 11 other nights with minima above 10 Celsius (50F), but only 2 of these milder nights occurred before mid months. There were several chilly nights during January, with most of these occurring during the first 2 weeks of January. Of the 11 nights with minima below 8 Celsius (46F), only the 22nd, with a low of 6.9 Celsius (45F), occurred after the 13th. On 2 nights the temperature fell below 5 Celsius (41F). On the 13th, a low of 4.7 Celsius (40F) was measured, but the coldest night of the month was the 6th with a low of 4.1 Celsius (39F).
The sea temperature was around 15 or 16 Celsius (59-61F) throughout the month.

Rain

There were only 3.7 millimetres (0.14 ins.) of rain during January, and that was only 7% of the average for the month. The first 18 days of the month were dry, but light rain in the morning, and again in the evening, on the 19th, amounted to 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.)  Rain in the early hours of the 2oth produced 2.3 millimetres (0.09 ins.), but it then remained dry until the 30th. Light rain on the evening of the 30th and a little rain early on the 31st, each produced a total of 0.03 millimetres (0.01 ins.), a very small amount in a very dry month.

Thunder

There was no thunder heard in west Malaga during January.

Wind

The wind was predominately from the northwest, and in the latter part of the month it was quite strong at times. There were 6 days when east or southeasterly winds were dominant, with only 1 of these days occurring after the 12th.  There were 9 days when gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph), with 8 of these breezy days occurring after the 19th. The highest gust was 24 knots (28 mph) on the 28th.

Fog

The only fog in west Malaga during January was on the evening of the 26th.
