Weather in Malaga – July 2023

                       Hot and Dry

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during July 2023 in Malaga was 31.4 Celsius (89F), and that was 1.9 Celsius (3.5 F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 23.5 Celsius (74F), and that was 1.7 Celsius (<3 F) above normal for July. Overall, it was the hottest month of any since records began in 2005. It was 0.3 Celsius (0.5F) hotter than the previous record holder, August 2022.     

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 40.2 Celsius (104F) on the 19th, but 38.8 Celsius (102F) occurred on the 24th, with 36.1 Celsius (97F) recorded on the 12th. On most days (17) the maximum temperature ranged between 29 and 33 Celsius (84-91F), but a few cooler days occurred. On 4 days the temperature remained below 28 Celsius (82F). On the 9th a high of 27.8 Celsius (82F) was measured, but the other 3 less hot days occurred at the end of the month. The 31st had a high of 27.9 Celsius (82F), but the 2 coolest days were the 28th and 30th with highs of 25.7 Celsius (78F) and 26.1 Celsius (79F) respectively.

There were many uncomfortably warm nights during July,  although no records were broken. On the 20th, a low of 26.9 Celsius (80F) occurred, with minima of 25.4 Celsius (78F) and 25.5 Celsius (78F) recorded on the 13th and 14th respectively. A further 18 nights had minimum temperatures between 23 and 25 Celsius (73-77F). The coolest nights occurred towards the end of the month. On 5 occasions the temperature fell below 22 Celsius (72F) with all of these less warm nights occurring between the 26th and 30th. Only 2 nights had minima below 21 Celsius (70F). On the 28th a low of 20.1 Celsius (68F) occurred, with 20.9 Celsius (70F) recorded on the 29th.  

The sea temperature ranged between 23 and 25 Celsius (73-77F) until the last week of July when a sudden fall to around 19 or 20 Celsius (66-68F) occurred. 

Rain

No rain  fell in Malaga during July. 

Thunder

No thunder was heard in Malaga during July. 

Wind

Although southeasterly sea breezes occurred on many afternoons, they were generally lighter and more short-lived than is normal during July. On the very hot days, a fresh or strong south to southwesterly wind briefly replaced the northwesterly land breezes during the afternoons. The first and last weeks of the month had the most ‘normal’ wind regimes, with light northwesterly breezes until late morning, these replaced by gentle southeasterly winds, with these dying away completely at sunset. There was only 1 occasion when the wind gusted above 20 knots (23 mph), and that was on the 5th,  when a gust of 21 knots (24 mph) was recorded.

Fog

No fog was observed in this part of Malaga.
