A very dry and warm month
Temperatures in Malaga
The average maximum temperature during June 2016 in Malaga was 27.7 Celsius (82F), and that was 0.9 Celsius (2F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 19.2 Celsius (67F), and that was 0.1 Celsius (<1F) above the normal June value.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 38.9 Celsius (102F) on the 13th. This was the highest June temperature at this site since records began in 2006, and appears to be the highest June temperature in the area since 1984. The following day, with a maximum temperature of 36.8 Celsius (98F), also exceeded the previous site record of 36.3 Celsius (97F) set in 2011. The 10th was also a very warm day with a high of 35.4 Celsius (96F). However, there was only 1 other day when the temperature reached 30 Celsius (86F), and that was the 4th when 30.2 Celsius (86F) was measured. There were no particularly cool days during June, although on 4 occasions maxima were below 25 Celsius (77F). Only 1 of these cooler days had a high below 24 Celsius (75F), and that was the 6th when 23.7 Celsius was recorded.
There were several fairly warm nights during June, these occurring around the middle of the month and during the last week. There was 1 exceptionally warm night and that was the 13th/14th when a minimum of 26.2 Celsius (79F) occurred. This was a new June record for this site. The second warmest night was the 14th/15th when a low of 22.2 Celsius (72F) was measured. There were 7 further nights when minima were above 20 Celsius (68F), with 5 of these warmer nights occurring right at the end of the month. There were no particularly cool nights, and although minimum temperatures were below 18 Celsius (64F) on 9 nights, there were only 2 nights when lows were under 17 Celsius (63F). The first night of the month had a minimum of 16.3 Celsius (61F), with the following night cooler at 15.9 Celsius (61F).
The sea temperature was around 17 Celsius (63F) at first, soon rising to 18 or 19 Celsius (64-66F), with a further rise to 21 or 22 Celsius late in the month.
Rain in Malaga
There was no measurable rain during June, although showery rain around mid morning on the 28th was enough to dampen the ground.
Thunder
There were no reports of thunder in this part of west Malaga.
Wind
The wind pattern was fairly typical for early Summer, with light northwesterly land breezes being replaced by gentle afternoon southeasterly sea breezes. However, on some days a brisk southwesterly wind developed during the afternoons leading to choppy seas and some lifted sand on the beach. On the 3 very warm or hot days the land breeze persisted through the afternoons and evenings with no relief from the heat before midnight. On the evening of the 13th, the temperature stayed above 30 Celsius (86F) until after midnight. On most days winds were mostly light or gentle, but on 4 days there were gusts above 20 knots (23 mph). The highest gust was in the very dry and blustery wind on the 14th when 23 knots (26 mph) was recorded.
Fog
There was no fog observed in west Malaga during June.
