Weather in Malaga – June 2021

Breezy, and not so Dry

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during June 2021 in Malaga was 26.7 Celsius (80F), and that was 0.3 Celsius (<1 F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 19.4 Celsius (67F), and that was 0.1 Celsius (0.2 F) above normal for June.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 34.5 Celsius (94F) on the 28th. There was only 1 other day when the temperature rose above 30 Celsius (86F), that was the 22nd with a high of 30.1 Celsius (86F), and on 5 other days the temperature exceeded 28 Celsius (82F). On most days (16) the maxima were between 25 and 28 Celsius (77-82F), but there were 7 cooler days. On the 18th, a high of 24.7 Celsius (77F) was recorded, but all the other cooler days occurred during the first week of June. On the 2nd a maximum of 23.3 Celsius (74F) was measured, but on the 6th, the temperature struggled to 22.8 Celsius (73F).

There was 1 notably warm night during June, and that was the 28th when 23.6 Celsius (74F) was recorded, but there were 5 other nights with minima above 20 Celsius (68F), with the warmest of these, the 15th, having a low of 21.9 Celsius (72F). On most nights (21) the temperature fell to between 18 and 20 Celsius (64-68F) with only 3 nights, these all during the first week, having minima below 18 Celsius (64F). The coolest night was the 6th with a minimum of 17.1 Celsius (63F).

The sea temperature was briefly around 20 Celsius (68F) in the middle of the month, but generally values were between 17 and 19 Celsius (63-66F). 

Rain

There were 3.6 millimetres (0.14 ins.) of rain during June. This was 210% of the monthly average, and the wettest June for 7 years. Measurable rain fell on 3 days, and that was 2 days above normal. It equalled the highest number of rain days recorded in June since records began in 2005. Showery rain on the evening of the 4th gave 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.) of rain, with further showers on the 5th giving 2 millimetres (0.08 ins.). Finally, a shower late on the evening of 16th produced another 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.) of rain. 

Thunder

There were 2 days with thunderstorms observed during June. The first occurred in the early hours of the 5th, and the second one was a distant storm to the southeast late in the evening on the 16th.

Wind

It was quite breezy again during June, especially around the middle of the month. Brisk northwesterly winds occurred on the warmest days, and on several days there were moderate cooling southeasterly sea breezes during the afternoons. However, occasionally, during the third week, there were also a few unpleasant southwesterly winds that ran parallel to the beach and whipped up the sand spoiling afternoon sunbathing. There were 3 days when gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph). Both the 16th and 17th had gusts of 22 knots (25 mph), but on the 23rd, the southeasterly sea breeze generated a gust of 24 knots (28 mph). 

Fog

Low cloud reduced visibility on 3 mornings, and sea mist occurred early on the 27th, but no fog was observed.
