Overall, it was the warmest June in west Malaga since 2017 and the second warmest since records began in 2005.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 36.4 Celsius (98F) on the 8th. Only the 13th and 14th in 2016 have had higher temperatures during June. The temperature rose to 33.3 Celsius (92F) on the 24th and 32.5 Celsius (91F) on the 27th. A further 6 days had maximum temperatures above 30 Celsius (86F). On many days (15) the temperature rose to between 27 and 30 Celsius (81-86F), but there were a few cooler days. On the 4th and 5th, along with the 29th and 30th, temperatures failed to reach 25 Celsius (77F). The 6th had a high of 23.4 Celsius (74F), but the maximum on the 29th was only 22.4 Celsius (72F). If this value had occurred 2 days later it would have been a record low maximum for July.
There were no exceptionally warm nights during June, but on the 17th a minimum of 23.6 Celsius (74F) occurred, and on the following night the temperature fell to 23.1 Celsius (73F). A further 15 nights had minima above 20 Celsius (68F), including 6 nights with lows between 22 and 23 Celsius (72-73F). The warmest nights were generally around mid-month. No particularly cool nights occurred, but on 8 occasions minima were below 19 Celsius (66F), including 2 nights when the temperature fell below 18 Celsius (64F). The sea temperature was unusually low for June. For much of the month, values varied between 15 and 17 Celsius (59-63F), but on a few days around mid-month the sea temperature rose to 20 Celsius (68F) or just above.
Rain
There were 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) of rain during June. That was only 11% of the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 1 day, which was average for June. The only measurable rain came from a late evening shower on the 17th. However, on the 21st, there were light showers both late in the morning and early in the afternoon. These showers were too light to produce any measurable rain.
Thunder
Thunder was heard on 2 days during June. On the 17th, thunder occurred around midnight, and on the 21st, there was thunder during the afternoon.
Wind
The usual combination of northwesterly land breezes and southeasterly sea breezes occurred on many days, although the unpleasant south to southwesterly wind that often raises sand on the beach, occurred more afternoons than usual. That was because of the marked temperature contrast between the low sea temperatures and the higher than average land temperatures. The most persistent, and often strongest, northwesterly winds were associated with the highest temperatures, whereas, the early onset of southeasterly sea breezes produced the coolest days. Generally, though, winds were light and gusts above 20 knots (23 mph) only occurred on 3 days. Southwesterly gusts reached 24 knots (28 mph) on the 4th, northwesterly gusts of 21 knots (24 mph) were recorded on the 27th and southeasterly gusts of 21 knots (24 mph) occurred on the 28th.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of Malaga, but misty low cloud occurred at times during the 29th.
