Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during March 2021 in Malaga was 18.8 Celsius (66F), and that was 0.3 Celsius (0.5F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 11.6 Celsius (53F), and that was 0.2 Celsius (<0.5F) above normal for March.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 24.2 Celsius (76F) on the 12th, but there were only 3 other days with maxima above 20 Celsius (68F). The 22nd had a high of 23.2 Celsius (74F), and the last 2 days of the month had maxima above 20 Celsius (68F). On most days (18) the temperature rose to between 18 and 20 Celsius (64-68F), but there were a few cooler days. On 3 occasions, the 4th, 5th and 20th, the temperature failed to rise above 16 Celsius (61F). The coolest of these days was on the 5th with a maximum of 15.4 Celsius (60F).
There were several fairly mild nights during March, with these mainly occurring during the first and last weeks of the month. On 8 nights the temperature remained above 13 Celsius, (55F), but only 2 of these milder nights had minima above 15 Celsius (59F). On the 28th a low of 15.2 Celsius (59F) was recorded, with the following night having a low of 15.7 Celsius (60F). No particularly cool nights occurred during March, but on 7 occasions the minimum temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F). However, only 2 nights had lows under 9 Celsius (48F). The temperature dipped to 8.5 Celsius (48F) on the 10th, and to 7.1 Celsius (45F) on the 21st.
The sea temperature, around 15 or 16 Celsius (60F) early in the month, rose to 16 or 17 Celsius (61-63F) after mid month.
Rain
There were only 31.1 millimetres (1.2 ins.) of rain during March. This was 51% of the average. Measurable rain fell on 7 days, and that was 1 day below normal. It was raining as the month began, but the rain in the early hours of the 1st only totalled 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.). Further rain fell on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th, but during this brief unsettled spell only 2.6 millimetres (0.1 ins.) fell, with the highest daily reading only 1 millimetre (0.04 ins.) on the 7th. It then remained dry until late in the evening on the 18th, when torrential rain fell briefly and gave 23.9 millimetres (0.94 ins.) in a very short time. Lighter rain continued into the early hours of the 19th with 3.8 millimetres (0.15 ins.) falling. That was the last rain of the month.
Thunder
There were 2 thunderstorms during March. A slight one occurred early in the evening of the 9th with just 1 distant rumble heard. Although lightning was observed, only 1 clap of thunder was heard during the heavy rain late on the 18th.
Wind
It was another windy month with fresh southeasterly breezes outnumbering those from the northwest. The last week of the month was generally the least windy, but earlier there were 6 days with gusts exceeding 20 knots (23 mph) On the 5th, a gust of 30 knots (34 mph) occurred, and on the 18th squally gusts in the late evening rose to 34 knots (39 mph) from the east.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of west Malaga during the month.
