Dry and Cool

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during March 2026 in Malaga was 18.2 Celsius (65F), and that was 1.0 Celsius (1.8F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 11.0 Celsius (52F), and that was 0.6 Celsius (>1F) below average for March. Overall, it was the coolest March for 14 years. It was also cooler than February, and the first cooler-than-average month for over a year.

There were very few pleasantly warm days during March. The temperature reached 22.6 Celsius (73F) on both the 15th and 31st, and a maximum of 22.3 Celsius (72F) occurred on the 29th, but these were the only days when the temperature exceeded 20 Celsius (68F). On most other days, the maximum temperature ranged from 16 to 20 Celsius (61-68F) with only 3 exceptions. On both the 4th and 10th, a maximum temperature of 15.8 Celsius occurred, but the coolest day of the month was the 6th, when 15.3 Celsius (60F) was recorded.

There were no particularly mild nights during March, but 15.1 Celsius (59F) was recorded on the 24th, and 14.8 Celsius (59F) was recorded on the 15th. A further 4 nights had minimum temperatures above 14 Celsius (57F). On most other nights (15), the minimum temperature ranged from 10 to 14 Celsius (50-57F), but on 10 nights the low was below 10 Celsius (50F). There were 7 of these cooler nights before mid-month. Overall, the coolest nights were the 5th, with a low of 7.7 Celsius (46F), the 17th, with a minimum of 7.1 Celsius (45F), and the 11th, with 6.3 Celsius (43F), making it the coolest night of the month.

The sea temperature was around 14 or 15 Celsius (57-59F) at first, but mostly 16 Celsius (61F) after mid-month.

Rain

A total of 22.6 millimetres (0.9 ins.) of rain fell during March. This was 32% of the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 5 days, and that was 4 days below average for the time of year. After a dry start to the month, rain, heavy at times, fell for much of the day on the 4th. The total for the day was 16.2 millimetres (0.64 ins.). Showers occurred on the afternoon of the 8th and produced 1.8 millimetres (0.07 ins.) of rain, with showers producing a similar total on the 10th. After a week of dry weather, early showery rain on the 18th gave 1.2 millimetres (0.05 ins.), and further showery rain on the 20th added 1.6 millimetres (0.05 ins.) to the March total. The remainder of the month was dry.

Thunder

Thunder was heard towards the west and northwest on the afternoon of the 10th.

Hail

No hail was observed at this site during March, but hail was reported closer to the thunderstorm that occurred on the afternoon of the 10th.

Wind

Winds during March were predominantly from the northwest, but on about a third of the days, east to southeasterly winds from the sea were dominant, and this was one of the main reasons for the lower-than-average daytime temperatures. It was often breezy, and 9 days had gusts of 20 knots (23 mph) or more. The highest gust was 25 knots (29 mph) on the 29th, but 24 knots (27 mph) were recorded on the 20th, with 23 knots (26 mph) occurring on the 10th, 14th and 30th.

Fog

No fog was observed in this part of west Malaga.
