A further 4 nights had minima above 18 Celsius (64F). All of these warmer nights occurred after mid month, with 3 of them occurring after the 26th. A low of 14.1 Celsius (57F) occurred on the 23rd, but this was the only cooler night after mid month. On 4 of the early May cool nights the temperature fell below 14 Celsius (57F), including 3 out of the first 4 nights of the month. The only 2 nights with lows under 13 Celsius (55F) were the 2nd and 4th, with readings of 12.1 Celsius (54F) and 11.2  Celsius (52F) respectively.

The sea temperature was unusually cool for May with daily values between 15 and 17 Celsius (59-63F). However, on the last 4 days of the month the temperature rose to around 20 Celsius (68F).

Rain

There were 0.4 millimetres (0.02 ins.) of rain during May. This was only 2% of the monthly average. It was the second driest May since records began in 2005. In May 2019 it was completely dry. Measurable rain fell on just 1 day, and that was 3 days below the average. The only rain occurred early in the morning on the 1st, although a heavy shower was observed to the north late on the afternoon of the 10th.

Thunder

Thunder was heard in association with the shower late in the afternoon of the 10th.

Wind

The wind directions during May were typical of a late Spring month. Northwesterly land breezes from late evening until late on the following morning, followed by southeasterly sea breezes until evening. There were several afternoons, mainly around the middle of the month, when fresh, almost strong, south to southwest winds blew and,  at times,  lifted sand on the beach. These fresh winds only extended 100 or 200 metres inland and were caused by the large differences between land and sea temperatures. Measured gusts of 20 knots (23 mph), or more, occurred on 6 days, with the highest gust of 24 knots (28 mph) occurring on the 1st. The anemometer mast is sheltered from the southwest, and it is likely that higher gusts may have occurred on afternoons when winds blew from that direction.

Fog

No fog was observed in this part of Malaga.
