Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during November 2018 in Malaga was 18.9 Celsius (66F), and that was 0.8 Celsius (1.5F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 12.3 Celsius (54F), and that was 0.5 Celsius (1F) below normal for November. Overall, it was the coolest November in west Malaga for 10 years.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 21.7 Celsius (71F) on the 10th. This was the lowest monthly maximum for November since records began in 2005. There were only 4 other days when the temperature rose above 20 Celsius (68F), with the last of these warmer days occurring on the 16th. On most days, the temperature rose to between 17 and 20 Celsius (63-68F), but on 3 occasions maxima were below 17 Celsius (63F). The 2 coolest days of the month were the 21st and 22nd with highs of 15.8 Celsius (60F) and 16.3 Celsius (61F) respectively.
There were a few mild nights around the middle of the month, and on 3 occasions minima were above 15 Celsius (59F). On the 14th the temperature fell to 15.9 Celsius (60F), but the 16th and 17th were only slightly cooler with lows of 15.8 Celsius (60F) and 15.6 Celsius (60F) respectively. The coolest nights were at either end of the month, but only 3 nights had minima below 10 Celsius (50F). On the 6th a low of 9.2 Celsius (49F) was recorded with 8.6 Celsius (48F) measured on the 28th. However, the coolest night of the month was the 29th with a minimum temperature of 7.3 Celsius (45F).
The sea temperature was around 16 or 17 Celsius (61-63F) throughout the month.
Rain
There were 77.5 millimetres (3.1 ins.) of rain during November, and that was less than 10% below average for the month. Rain fell on 12 days, and that was 5 days above the monthly average. Only the November of 2012 had more rain days (15) since records began in 2005. The first 3 days of the month were dry, but wet fog produced 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins.) of rain on the 4th. A wet morning on the 5th gave almost 4 millimetres (0.15 ins.) of rain, but the following 2 days were dry. Evening rain on the 8th continued into the early hours of the 9th, with a total of nearly 4 millimetres (0.15 ins.) again. Showers occurred on the 14th and 15th, but amounts of rain were small. After 2 dry days, heavy rain occurred late morning and early afternoon on the 18th. A total of 29.7 millimetres (1.2 ins.) fell, with showers, or longer spells of rain, falling on each of the following 5 days. Over 38 millimetres (1.5 ins.) of rain fell during this period, and included falls of 7 millimetres (0.3 ins.) on the 19th, almost 9 millimetres (0.35 ins.) on the 21st, and 15.2 millimetres (0.6 ins.) on the 23rd. Apart from light rain overnight on the 26th, which produced 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins.), the remainder of the month was dry.
Thunder
There were 2 days with thunder during November. Frequent thunder and lightning occurred late morning and early afternoon on the 18th, although the main focus of the storms seemed to be to the west of Malaga. One rumble of thunder occurred during heavy rain just before mid morning on the 21st.
Wind
November was quite a breezy month with winds predominantly blowing from the northwest. There were a few southeasterly afternoon sea breezes, but these occurred with less than the usual frequency. Around the middle of the month there were 5 consecutive days when east or southerly winds dominated. On 8 days there were gusts exceeding 20 knots. The highest gust was 26 knots (30 mph) on the 18th.
Fog
There was fog observed very early on the 4th, but it had dispersed by mid morning.
