Exceptionally Dry and Rather Cool
Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during November 2021 in Malaga was 19.5 Celsius (67F), and that was 0.1 Celsius (<0.2 F) below normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 11.7 Celsius (53F), and that was 1.1 Celsius (2 F) below normal for November. Overall, it was the coolest November for 13 years.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 27.2 Celsius (81F) on the 1st, but there were only 2 other days with maxima above 22 Celsius (72F). On the 2nd, a high of 23.1 Celsius (73F), occurred, with 23.3 Celsius (74F) recorded on the 15th. Although there were a few rather warm days, on most occasions (16) maximum temperatures were between 18 and 20 Celsius (64-68F). A few cooler days occurred, all of these during the last week of November. On 5 occasions the temperature failed to reach 18 Celsius (64F), but only 1 day, the 28th, had a maximum below 16 Celsius (61F). On that day, the temperature only reached 14.3 Celsius (58F).
There were no especially warm nights during November, although the first 2 nights of the month had minima of 19.2 Celsius (67F) and 19.7 Celsius (68F) respectively.Only 1 other night had a minimum above 15 Celsius (59F). that was on the 20th. On most nights (20), minima were between 10 and 13 Celsius (50-55F), but in the last week of November there were 4 colder nights. On the 27th, the temperature fell to 7.3 Celsius (45F), with 7.6 Celsius (46F) recorded on the following night.
The sea temperature was around 20 Celsius (68F) at the beginning of November, but it quickly fell to 17 Celsius (63F), and at times during the last 3 weeks it was no higher than 15 or 16 Celsius (60F).
Rain
There were just 4.0 millimetres (0.16 ins.) of rain during November. That was only 5% of the average, and made it the driest November for 8 years. Measurable rain fell on 7 days, and that was only 1 day below average for the time of year. A light overnight shower gave 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) of rain on the 3rd, but it then stayed dry until the 20th, when showery rain early and late produced another 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) of rain. Each of the following 3 days had some light rain or showers but totals were small. On the 21st, there were 1.8 millimetres (0.08 ins.) of rain measured, with 0.6 millimetres (0.02 ins.) on the 23rd. Evening showers on the 25th added a further 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.) to the monthly total, followed by a light evening shower on the 27th giving 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.), the last rain of the month.
Thunder
No thunder was heard in this part of Malaga, but lightning was observed towards the southeast on the evenings of both the 21st and 23rd.
Wind
It was a rather breezy month with the wind generally blowing from the northwest. However, on some afternoons, especially early in the month, there were some light or gentle southeasterly sea breezes. The exception to this pattern, was during the middle of the third week, when a ‘levanter’ blew for 3 days. The east to southeasterly wind was strong at times, with gusts of 31 knots (35 mph), 40 knots (46 mph), and 29 knots (33 mph) on the 18th, 19th and 20th respectively. The other days with gusts above 20 knots (23 mph) were the 3rd, 27th, 28th and 29th, with the highest gust of 29 knots (33 mph) measured on the 29th.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of Malaga.
