Exceptionally Dry and Warm
Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during November 2023 in Malaga was 21.6 Celsius (71F), and that was 1.8 Celsius (>3 F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 13.5 Celsius (56F), and that was 0.6 Celsius (1 F) above normal for November. Overall, it was slightly cooler than last year, but nevertheless the second warmest November since records began in 2005.
The temperature rose to 28.1 Celsius (82F) on the 12th, which equalled the highest November maximum since records began (2005), set on the 16th November in 2020. The next warmest day was the 4th with a high of 24.2 Celsius (76F). However, there were 6 days with maxima between 23 and 24 Celsius (73-75F), with a further 5 days having highs between 22 and 23 Celsius (72-73F), including the last day of the month, when 22.2 Celsius (72F) was recorded. No particularly cool days occurred during November, although 5 days had maxima under 20 Celsius (68F). Only 3 of these days failed to reach 19 Celsius (66F). On both the 8th and 17th, highs of 18.7 Celsius (66F) occurred, but the coolest day of the month was the 23rd, when a high of 16.5 Celsius (62F) was recorded.
There were no especially warm nights during November, although 18.2 Celsius (65F) was recorded on the 12th, with 17.9 Celsius (64F) occurring on the preceding night. A further 5 nights had minima above 15 Celsius (59F), with the last of these warmer nights occurring on the 21st. On most nights (16) the minimum temperature ranged from 12 to 15 Celsius (54-59F), but there were some cooler nights. In fact, on 3 nights the temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F). The coolest night was the 24th with a low of 9.2 Celsius (48F), but 9.4 Celsius (49F) was recorded on the 26th.
The sea temperature was around 14 or 15 Celsius (57-59F) throughout the month.
Rain
A total of 0.6 millimetres (0.02 ins.) of precipitation was measured during November. This was 1% of the monthly average. It was the driest November since records began in 2005. Measurable precipitation occurred on 2 days, which was 5 days below the average for the month. The month began wet, but the 0.2 millimetres (<0.01 ins.) of rain that fell in the early hours of the 1st was, in fact, the only rain that fell during the entire month. The other 0.4 millimetres (<0.02 ins.) that made up up the monthly total was from wet fog that was deposited in the rain gauge on the 15th.
Thunder
No thunder was heard in this part of Malaga during the month.
Wind
The 15th, when the wet fog occurred, was the only day when east to southeasterly winds blew for the majority of the day. On every other day the northwesterly land breeze dominated, with southeasterly sea breezes weak or, as on most days, completely absent. The northwesterly wind was quite brisk at times, and on 9 days there were gusts above 20 knots (23 mph). The highest gust was 30 knots (34 mph) on the 2nd, but generally the first half of November was windier than the second half.
Fog
There was fog at times during the day on the 15th, and it was dense for a while during the morning and late afternoon. Patchy fog also occurred mid afternoon on the 17th and early on the 19th.
