Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during October 2019 in Malaga was 25.1 Celsius (77F), and that was 1..3 Celsius (2F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 16.6 Celsius (62F), and that was 0.4 Celsius (<1F) below normal for October.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 34.1 Celsius (93F) on the 1st. This was higher than any temperature recorded during September and the 8th highest temperature of the year. The 2nd and 3rd were also very warm, with each day recording 31.2 Celsius (88F). There were 5 other days with highs above 26 Celsius (79F) and the last 3 days of the month accounted for 3 of these warmer days. There were no cold days during October, but on 8 occasions the maximum temperature failed to reach 23 Celsius (73F). All of these cooler days occurred between the 20th and 28th and included 4 days with maxima below 21 Celsius (70F). The coolest day was the 21st with a high of 20.6 Celsius (69F).
There were several warm nights during October, and on 5 occasions the temperature stayed above 20 Celsius (68F). The warmest night was the 2nd with a low of 21.7 Celsius (71F), but the 11th and 31st also had lows above 21 Celsius (70F) with each night recording 21.2 Celsius (70F). Although many other nights (13) had minima between 17 and 20 Celsius (63-68F), there were more than a few quite cool nights. There were 11 nights with lows under 15 Celsius (59F), with all of these cooler nights occurring between the 16th and 29th. There were 3 nights with minimum temperatures below 12 Celsius (54F), including 11.1 Celsius (52F) on the 23rd and 11.3 Celsius (52F) on the 26th.
The sea temperature fell steadily from a high of 20 Celsius (68F), at the beginning of the month, to a rather cold 17 or 18 Celsius (63-64F) after mid month. At the end of October the temperature occasionally dipped to 16 Celsius (61F).
Rain
There were 6.4 millimetres (0.25 ins.) of rain during October, and that was only 10% of the monthly average. It was the driest October since records began in 2005. Measurable rain fell on 3 days, and that’s 4 days below the average. So far this year rainfall is a worrying 68% below normal and measurable rain has fallen on just 22 days. Normally, by the end of October, rain has fallen on 45 days. No rain fell during the first 13 days of October, but light rain early on the 14th gave 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins.). Showery outbreaks of rain produced a more respectable 5.6 millimetres (0.2 ins.) of rain on the 20th. A light shower on the afternoon of the 20th was too light to measure in west Malaga, but on the following afternoon further light showers gave 0.5 millimetres (0.02 ins.) No further rain fell during October.
Thunder
There was thunder heard from a storm that developed over the hills to the west of Malaga during the afternoon of the 22nd.
Wind
The wind was mostly gentle or moderate during October with afternoon southeasterly sea breezes becoming less prevalent overall and northwesterly land breezes lasting throughout the day on several occasions. Gusts exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) on 6 days with the last day of the month the breeziest with a gust of 24 knots (27 mph) recorded.
Fog
There was no fog observed in this part of Malaga during October apart from sea fog on the afternoon of the 6th.
