Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during October 2021 in Malaga was 24.9 Celsius (77F), and that was 1.1 Celsius (2 F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 17.2 Celsius (63F), and that was 0.4 Celsius (<1 F) above normal for October.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 28.6 Celsius (83F) on the 3rd, but there were 3 other days, the 1st, 4th and 22nd, when the temperature rose above 27 Celsius (81F). The warmest of these days was the 22nd with a high of 27.3 Celsius (81F). Each of the first 9 days of the month had maxima above 25 Celsius (77F), with a further 5 of these warmer days occurring during the remainder of October. In fact, there were no cool days during the month, with only 3 days having maxima below 23 Celsius (73F). The 16th and 28th both had highs of 22.3 Celsius (72F), with 22.1 Celsius (72F) recorded on the 29th.
There were no especially warm nights during October. However, a minimum temperature between 19 and 20 Celsius (66-68F) occurred on 8 occasions, with half of these warmer nights registered before the 10th. Even so, the warmest nights of the month were both the 1st and 31st when minimum temperatures of 19.7 Celsius (68F) occurred. On the majority of nights (16), the temperature fell to between 15 and 18 Celsius (59-64F), but towards the end of the month, there were a few cooler nights. On 4 occasions the temperature dipped below 15 Celsius (59F), but the only night with a low under 14 Celsius (57F) was the 25th when 13.8 Celsius (57F) was recorded.
The sea temperature was around 22 or 23 Celsius (72-73F) at the beginning of October, but for the remainder of the month, it hovered between 20 and 21 Celsius (68-70F).
Rain
There were just 2.8 millimetres (0.11 ins.) of rain during October. That was only 5% of the average, and made it the driest October since records began in 2005. Measurable rain fell on 2 days, and that was 4 days below average for the time of year. Early on the evening of the 3rd showery rain produced 2.5 millimetres (0.1 ins.), and early on the 18th there was light rain which produced 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins.). A few spots of rain were observed on the morning of the 31st, but not enough to add to the monthly total.
Thunder
No thunder was heard in this part of Malaga.
Wind
It was more typical of a late Summer or early Autumn month with winds often light or calm overnight and during the mornings, with gentle southeasterly breezes blowing during the afternoons. An unusually large number of days (25), had no gusts above 12 knots (13 mph). The exceptions occurred on both the 3rd and 4th, when brisk northwesterly breezes blew and gave gusts of 20 knots (23 mph) or more; and also late on the 22nd and early on the 23rd. Some form of mountain wind, perhaps caused by distant storms, produced a rapid wind change from northwest to east-southeast and resulted in several gusts above 25 knots (29 mph). The highest gust was 32 knots (37 mph) on the 22nd, which, perhaps surprisingly, was a record high for October.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of Malaga.
