Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during October 2023 in Malaga was 24.9 Celsius (77F), and that was 1 Celsius (<2 F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 17.7 Celsius (64F), and that was 0.8 Celsius (>1 F) above normal for October.
There were no especially warm days during October, but the temperature reached 28.7 Celsius (84F) on the 2nd, with the temperature rising above 27 Celsius (81F) on 6 other days, including highs of 28.1 Celsius (82F) and 27.6 Celsius (82F) on the 4th and 26th respectively. A further 12 days had maxima above 25 Celsius (77F). In fact, each day from the 1st to the 16th had highs above 25 Celsius (77F); whereas only 3 days had maxima above 25 Celsius after the 16th. There were no particularly cool days during October, but maxima were below 21 Celsius (70F) on 3 occasions towards the end of the month. On the 29th, a maximum of 20.4 Celsius (69F) was recorded, with maxima of 19.4 Celsius (67F) and 19.1 Celsius (66F) on the 23rd and 31st respectively.
The warmest nights during October mainly occurred during the first 3 weeks of October. On 4 nights, the 5th, 6th, 14th and 16th, minimum temperatures were above 20 Celsius (68F). The warmest night was the 14th with a low of 20.7 Celsius (69F), but the 16th was only 0.1 Celsius (0.2F) less warm. Between the 1st and 19th, all minima were above 17 Celsius (63F), but after the 17th only 2 nights had minimum temperatures above 17 Celsius (63F). No especially cool nights occurred during October, but the temperature dipped below 16 Celsius (61F) on 8 nights. However, only 2 nights had minima below 15 Celsius (59F). The 24th had a low of 14.3 Celsius (58F) and the 29th was 0.1 Celsius (0.2F) less cool.
The sea temperature was 22 or 23 Celsius (72-73F) at the beginning of the month, but slowly dropped to 20 Celsius (68F) by the middle of the third week. Thereafter, the sea cooled quickly with daily values in the range 15 to 17 Celsius (59-63F) for the remainder of October.
Rain
A total of 22.6 millimetres (0.9 ins.) of rain fell during October. This was 46% of the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 6 days, which was 2 days above the average for the month. The first 13 days of the month were dry, but occasional rain early on the 14th gave 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.). It was then dry again until the 19th. During the day on the 19th there was patchy light rain, but during the evening some heavy rain fell, and the total for the day was 15.2 millimetres (0.6 ins.). Rain continued into the early hours of the 20th adding another 0.8 millimetres (0.03 ins.) to the total. After a dry day on the 21st, occasional rain on the 22nd gave 2.8 millimetres (0.1 ins.), with a heavy shower on the evening of the 23rd contributing another 2.2 millimetres (0.09 ins.) to the monthly total. The last day of the month was wet at times in the afternoon and evening, but only 1.4 millimetres (0.05 ins.) of rain were measured.
Thunder
No thunder was heard in this part of Malaga during the month.
Wind
The first half of October was dominated by northwesterly land breezes, with afternoon sea breezes from the southeast generally weak, or sometimes non-existent. The only exception was on the 6th, when a light sea breeze developed early in the day, and was reluctant to die away in the evening. An encroachment of Atlantic weather fronts was accompanied by southwesterly winds on both the 18th and 19th, and east to southeast winds blew for most of the day on both the 22nd and 23rd. Northwesterlies then occurred during the remainder of October. Winds were mostly light or gentle, but southwesterly gusts reached 24 knots (28 mph) on the 19th, followed by 22 knots (25 mph) from the northwest on the following day. The east-southeasterly was quite strong for a while on the 22nd, and a gust of 31 knots (35 mph) was recorded. The northwesterlies during the last week of October were quite brisk at times, and a gust of 23 knots occurred on the 27th.
Fog
