On most days, temperatures rose to between 17 and 20 Celsius (63-68F), but there were 6 days when the maximum failed to reach 17 Celsius (63F), including 3 days when highs were below 16 Celsius (61F). The coolest day was the 7th when the temperature only reached 15 Celsius (59F), although the 10th was only 0.1 Celsius (0.2F) less cool.
The 1st/2nd was a notably mild night in March with a minimum temperature of 16.2 Celsius (61F). There were 3 other nights with minima above 13 Celsius (55F), including the 21st/22nd, the second mildest night of the month, with a low of 13.9 Celsius (57F). On many nights, the lowest temperature was between 10 and 13 Celsius (50-55F), but there were 13 nights when the temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F). Only 3 of these cooler nights had minima below 8 Celsius (46F), including 7.4 Celsius (45F) on the 8th/9th. Rain in Malaga
There were 23.1 millimetres (0.9 ins) of rain measured during March, and this was under 50% of the long-term average for the area. Measurable rain only occurred on 1 day, around 7 days short of the normal for the month. There were a few spots of rain on the 1st, but not enough to measure but the 32 day drought was broken on the 28th when a spell of rain, mainly during the morning, totalled 23.1 millimetres (0.9 ins). Temperatures were low during the rain and a late morning reading of 8.6 Celsius (48F) was lower than all, bar 4, March nights!
Thunder
No thunderstorms were observed in the Malaga area during March, but there was a severe thunderstorm in the area around Almeria on the morning of the 29th. It lasted less than hour but was accompanied by some very squally winds..
Wind
It was a breezy start to March with each of the first 5 days having gusts in excess of 20 knots (23 mph), with 3 of these days recording gusts of 30 knots (34 mph) or more. The wind was mainly from the northwest at the beginning of the month, but during the second and third weeks the wind was generally much lighter, with southeasterly sea breezes on most days, and in the second week in particular, the usual northwesterly land breeze was either very light or completely absent. From the fourth week, through to the end of the month it became breezier again, even so, there were a couple of days where southeasterly wiknds were dominant. Overall, there were 12 days with gusts over 20 knots (23 mph), including 5 days with gusts of 30 knots (34 mph) or more. The highest gust was 32 knots, (37 mph) on the 25th.
Fog
No fog was observed in west Malaga.
