Warm with a welcomed wet end to the month.
Temperatures in Malaga
The average maximum temperature during September 2014 in Malaga was 27.7 Celsius (82F), and that was 1 degree Celsius (1.8F) above normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 20.5 Celsius (69F), and that was just slightly above the normal September value.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 35.6 Celsius (96F) on the 4th, but on the previous day a high of 24.9 Celsius (95F) occurred, and on the 7th there was a maximum of 33.3 Celsius (92F). There were no other maxima above 32 Celsius (90F), but during the first fortnight of September a total of 8 days had highs above 30 Celsius (86F), the only days during the months when such values were reached. There was a marked lowering of temperatures after mid month, with no maxima below 25 Celsius (77F) prior to the 16th, but with 10 days not reaching this figure after the 15th. A total of 6 of these cooler days had highs between 24 and 25 Celsius (75-77F), and a further 3 days had top temperatures between 23 and 24 Celsius (73-75F). The coolest day was the 27th when the temperature only rose to 21.6 Celsius (71F).

There were several very warm nights at the beginning of September. The first night of the month had a low of 24 Celsius (75F), but the nights of the 3rd/4th and 4th/5th had lows of 25.9 and 25.8 Celsius (78-79F) respectively. These were the 2nd and 3rd warmest nights of the ‘Summer’ behind the 26.8 Celsius (80F) recorded on the 12th/13th August, and were the highest night-time temperatures recorded in September since readings began at this site in 2005. At the end of the second week nights became cooler. Minima of 20 Celsius (68F) or higher occurred during the first 13 nights of the month, and, without exception, minima were 20.0 Celsius (68F), or lower, after the 13th. All of these lower minima were in the range 18 to 20 Celsius (64-68F),  except for the night of the 26th/27th when a reading of 17.8 Celsius (64F) was logged.

Sea temperatures varied considerably during September, with a warm 23 to 25 Celsius (73-77F) recorded for much of the first fortnight. However, a quick fall to between 16 and 18 Celsius (61-64F) occurred aftewr mid month, although a recovery to between 20 and 21 Celsius (68-70F) occurred right at the end of September.

Rain in Malaga
There were 65.3 millimetres (2.6 ins) of rain during September, and this was well over twice the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 4 days, the normal for September. The long drought in Malaga, beginning on the 25th June, finally ended after 85 days when a late morning shower gave 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins) of rain on the 17th. A thundery shower produced another 1 millimetre (0.04 ins) on the evening of the 26th. However, heavy rain in the early hours of the 27th, were followed by showers during the day and a total rainfall of 29.7 millimetres (1.2 ins). This value was bettered the next day when heavy overnight rain and a mid-morning shower produced 34.3 millimetres  (1.3 ins), the wettest day of the year so far.

Thunder
There were 3 days with thunderstorms in Malaga during September. On the evening of the 26th there was a thunderstorm to the east. Overnight, further thunderstorms moved north over Malaga, and on the following night, there were quite intense storms between about 0400 and 0530 hours.

Wind
There was the usual balance between light northwesterly land breezes overnight and during the mornings, and light or gentle southeasterly sea breezes during the afternoons and evenings, although the sea breezes were often very weak. On the very warm days early in the month a brisk southwesterly wind occurred on some afternoons before northwesterly breezes brought a rise in temperatures during the evenings. There were no windy days during September, and light or gentle winds prevailed almost all day everyday. The only gust of any note was the 20 knots (23 mph) that occurred during the thunderstorm on the 27th.

Fog
There was no fog observed in this part of Malaga during September.
